World View of Precision Agriculture

High commodity prices in 2007-08 generated additional income for farmers in many countries. Part of this wealth was used to purchase new equipment. As a result, the share of farm machinery that is ready for precision agriculture, up to variable rate technologies, increased substantially in the last few years. The rise of input prices that followed this episode now drives the growers to be more careful with their input purchase and use. As a result the fundamentals for a strong growth of precision agriculture practices are there. To what extend does it really drives the development of precision agriculture? How farmers are now arbitrating between different uses of GPS related technologies? Are we seeing different evolutions in different parts of the world? Why do we see differences in the market between countries, and where is it pointing to? Where are we finally seeing the development of variable rate applications and planting, which bring the full economic, agronomic and environment value of the technology? Damien will make use of GEOSYS international experiences in the development of FieldInSite™ and FarmSat™ Variable Rate Decision Support Tools to analyze the latest precision agriculture market trends and differences between countries.
