Integrating Data Management and Technology at the Farm Level
Big Data continues to be one of the hot topics within the ag industry but remains a concern for farmers and companies as they deploy new services around data management. Companies continue to build their data service portfolio’s but success hinges on many factors including farmer participation and the precision ag technology solutions in place at the farm. Beyond these remarks, results of a data management survey published in 2013 will be presented to frame-up some of the keys to make Big Data work at the farm level.
Biography: John grew up on a 2,000 acre fruit and vegetable farm in Ohio. In 2004, he arrived at Auburn University in the Biosystems Engineering Department and has been conducting research and extension efforts focused on precision agriculture and machinery automation. Johns educational background includes a B.A. degree from Wittenberg University in physics and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biosystems and agricultural engineering from the University of Kentucky. John leads the Alabama Precision Agricultural program at Auburn University providing timely information to farmers and consultants related to precision agriculture and was recently named the 2013 Precision Ag Researcher / Educator of the Year by PrecisionAg.com and in 2014 became ALFAs Endowed Professor of Agriculture at Auburn University.
